Broadband has many advantage over ordinary dial-up connection. The first advantage
I would say is the maximum downloading speed. By using broadband, we could gain
at least double the speed of dial-up. The dial-up has maximum speed of 56kbps (kilobits
per second). Broadband starting speed is 512kbps in UK. The maximum speed in UK
is 24mbps. The speed referred here are downloading speed. Because of the communication
happens through multiple channels, the uploading may speeds may be different. Usually
in a household, the data sent (upload) would be much lesser than receiving (downloading).
In other words, when you are requesting for a web page, the data you send to request
the page will be much lesser than the data (in this case the actual web page) you
will be receiving. This is why it is all right to have a broadband that provides
you less upload speed than download speed for household use. An 8 Meg broadband
means that maximum download speed it can provide is 8 mbps. Another big advantage
of broadband is that unlike the dial-ups, they do not engage the phone line. One
will be able to use phone and broadband at the same time. This eliminates the need
for another phone line if you are a die-had internet user.
